Egypt's media have certainly performed well in the first multi-candidate elections ever held in the country.
Prior to the official launch of the election campaign, the media developed a set of principles by which candidates would abide in their propaganda campaigns in radio and television. Neutrality, transparency and equality were ensured to all candidates.
Following are SIS contributions to the electoral process:

1- A daily news bulletin:
With the launch of the campaign on August 17, the SIS issued a daily news bulletin on the progress of the electoral process. All candidates were requested to provide SIS with their CVs and platforms; and all of them were given equal space.
The daily news bulletin also highlighted the profiles, programs, activities and statements of all candidates both in Arabic and English.
2- A Website page:
A whole page on SIS internet Website was dedicated to the elections. The page covered the new laws promulgated to implement political reform in Egypt. It also included the line-up of the Higher Presidential Election Commission, the political parties, the candidates' CVs, and a daily coverage of the contestants' statements and activities.

3-The international press center:
Moreover, SIS set up a press center which served about 2000 Egyptian, Arab and world media representatives, members of the press, correspondents, cameramen and NGO representatives.
All means of communication, computers, internet, telephone lines were made available.
The voting process, the sorting out and counting of votes were, moreover, transmitted, via huge TV screens, from the polling stations to the press center.
In cooperation with the Egyptian TV, all stages of the voting process have been on show, including the casting of votes by presidential candidates' in their electoral constituencies.
4-The
Communication
Centerat SIS HQ:
A center was set up at SIS HQ with the aim of communicating with candidates and the media as well as of obtaining updates on the electoral process. The center answered questions put by candidates, the media and the public around the clock.
Center staff received several letters of thanks on SIS e-mail from the BBC, numerous Arab and world newspapers and from citizens at home and abroad.
5- The External Information Sector:
The External Information Sector published a daily bulletin to answer questions of the media abroad.
The
Moscow office also published the contents of the SIS website election page in a booklet in both English and Russian.
