"Islam is a religion that respects all the Messengers of God pointing out that attempts to insult the dead in general and the Prophets in particular run counter to the noble humanitarian principles," said the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr. Mohamed Sayed Tantawi.

Dr. Tantawi made the statement during a meeting with Danish ambassador to Egypt Bjarne Henneberge Sornsen who reaffirmed the Danish government's and people's respect for all religions, pointing out that Islam is one of the major religions not only in the world but also in Denmark.

Commenting on a newspaper story abusing Prophet Mohamed in the Danish press, the ambassador said his government condemns any statements or other actions that seek to defame religions.
