The row over the republishing by some Danish newspapers of cartoons desecrating the Prophet Mohammad has been fomented once again; leaving no doubt that there has been a campaign aiming at hurting sentiments of the Islamic world. After the calm down of the wide-scope protest triggered by the 2006 crisis, again the Danish newspapers repeated its reckless acts.
Egypt's reaction, as a matter of fact, came so strong at both popular and official levels. Egypt's Foreign Ministry recalled the Danish Ambassador in Cairo, expressing Egypt's categorical rejection to the bids by Danish media to repeat insulting sentiments of all Muslims.
Al-Azhar also warned against the repercussions of such acts, affirming that going further in this way would inevitably lead to deepening hatred between Muslims and others. Information Minister Anas Al-Fiqi decided to ban the distribution of four foreign papers in the country. Egypt, further, voiced sorrow over the resort of some European politicians to approach such cheap ways to gain votes, rejecting negative statements that accompanied such acts.
