Egypt-hosted WEF a Success
After three days of marathon talks, the activities of the World Economic Forum have come to an end in Sharm al-Sheikh, the City of Peace.
That the session should be a success proves the Egyptian people's ability to achieve when challenged. WEF President Klaus Schwab has been satisfied with what he saw, a matter which was reflected in the friendly address he delivered at the opening session. It also showed during his meeting not only with Egypt's Minister of Industry and Trade Rasheed M. Rasheed who had been in charge of organization but with other Egyptian officials as well.
The Forum was also an opportunity to conduct a dialogue on political, economic and social issues of concern to the countries represented at the event.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's meeting yesterday with the Israeli delegation to the Forum which included Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni was a step in the direction of defusing the crisis under which the Palestinians have been suffering because of the siege clamped on them by the international community as punishment for freely exercising their political rights.
On the other hand, the meetings held by President Hosni Mubarak on the sidelines with Heads of State, senior delegates and world dignitaries are sure to support Egypt's political and economic interests in the short and long run.
