3 old mosques restored


    Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni is to open three mosques noted for their archaeological richness in Al-Azhar district today. This follows on from development under the auspices of the ongoing national project to save and develop archaeological sites.

    Cairo Governor Abdul Azim Wazir, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities Zahi Hawas, and Under-Secretary of Ministry of Culture Farouq Abdul Salam are all to attend the inauguration.

    Minister Hosni said yesterday that within the next few weeks 38 archaeological sites in the Fatimid Cairo area will be inaugurated and open to tourists after the ministry completes developments at a cost of LE 100 million.

    Director of Historical Cairo Development Scheme Ayman Abdul Monem said that the three Al-Azhar mosques took three years to restore and develop at a cost of L.E million.
