Germany is to hand over sections of an ancient Egyptian mural to an Egyptian delegation Monday.
"The delegation from the Ministry of Culture and the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) will receive five sections of a mural painting stolen from the tomb of Seti I in the Valley of Kings near Luxor," said Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni said yesterday25/6/2006.
SCA Secretary General Zahi Hawass hailed the move by Egyptology Institute affiliated to the University of Tuebingen.
The section of the mural will be restored to their original place in the tomb, Hawass added.
Meanwhile, Egyptian archaeologists unearthed two sarcophagi dating back to the 26th dynasty near the Tari tomb, l km south of the Giza Pyramids.
Supreme Council of " Antiquities (SCA) Secretary General Zahi Hawas said that the first sarcophagus was 2m long, 70cm wide and 60cm high. The second sarcophagus was found inside, in the shape of a mummy, he noted.
The two sarcophagi carried drawings related to the religious life and the afterlife of the Ancient Egyptians in vivid colors, said Hawas. Hawas will hold today a press conference at Mubarak Library to announce in details the two finds.
