Three ancient coffins discovered in Saqqara

"A Japanese archaeological mission has discovered, in Saqqara district, Giza governorate, three wooden coffins, dating back to the middle and modern Pharaonic dynasties,"said Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Antiquities Dr Zahi Hawwas, in statements on Saturday10/2/2007.

He said one of the coffins was cut in the shape of a human being and coloured with black. It dates back to the modern dynasty.

The other two coffins date back to the middle dynasty, added Sabri Abdel-Aziz, the head of the Egyptian Antiquities Department.
