Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni decided to carry out the urgent project of maintaining blocks of the Khoufu Greater pyramid in the frame of the related great enterprise implemented by the ministry since 8 years on 3 stages.
Dr. Zahi Hawwas, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities stated that a technical and engineering committee comprises a group of scientists and experts in antiquities including Dr. Farouq el-Baz is formed to test status of the greater pyramid's blocks and preparing for its restoration.
Hawwas said that it is the beginning for other pyramids restoration process that extends to 10 years for its difficulty.
Archaeologist Kamal Waheed, director of Haram Antiquities Unit said that the 3-stage project started since 8 years and the first and second stage had end, as we currently implementing the 3rd and last stage that includes an erection of a cement and metallic wall around the pyramid plateau in historical and monumental shape.
In addition to other 3 entrance for the first plateau. He said that the project includes an electronic safety for the plateau against bombings and arms and is provided with TV cameras to monitor visitors.
