Remains of ancient mummy discovered in Egypt

Remains of an Egyptian mummy thought to be Queen Seshestet were discovered on Thursday 8/1/2009. A statement by the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) said the remains were found in a granite sarcophagus in Saqqara, south of Cairo.

Egyptian archaeologists found a skull, legs, pelvis, and other body parts wrapped in linen. SCA Secretary General Zahi Hawwas said that gold wrappings which would have been put on the fingers of the mummified person were also found.

Queen Seshestet is the mother of King Teti, the first king of the Sixth Dynasty who ruled Egypt in the 24th century BC.
