"Information technology and communications are integral to achieving economic and social development in Africa," said the Minister of Communications in his speech Monday12/5/2008 before the first session of the first day of the Telecom Africa 2008 conference, which opened in Cairo Sunday and lasts until May 15.
"Worldwide, internet security and electronic safety are of great importance, even more important in Africa and the Middle East," Tarek Kamel said .
In statements to the local El-Messa newspaper of Monday 12/5/2008 Tarek Kamel said "The Telecom Africa 2008 conference, will communicate to the international community the important message that Egypt is Africa's main centre for the outsourcing and IT business".
Kamel said the message is not only to be delivered to the African market, but also to the European and US markets that are experiencing workforce shortages and are seeking to diversify and expand their investments world-wide.
Meantime, Kamel said the African market is still bustling with promising opportunities.
He also referred to a tendency to up investments in Africa, saying that Egyptian companies would largely contribute in this regard.
The Minister highlighted an African interest in establishing and making use of smart villages, citing ventures in Nigeria, Gambia and Ghana.
