Egyptian-EU cooperation to establish independent authority for nuclear safety measures

Electricity Minister Hassan Younis and Head of the EU Commission in Egypt Klaus Ebermann inaugurated Thursday 15/5/2008 a workshop on nuclear safety measures. During the workshop which was held in Cairo, Ebermann said that the European Union expressed full support to the Egyptian peaceful nuclear program. He also underlined that the EU is buttressing use of clean energy to reduce gas emissions.

Electricity Minister Hassan Younis, who attended the workshop along with a number of EU experts concerned with the environment, said the workshop was meant to discuss Egyptian-EU cooperation in the field of nuclear safety measures, especially with regard to establishing an independent nuclear safety association. The workshop also tackled means of boosting Egyptians' technical expertise as well as awareness of nuclear safety measures, Younis added.
