Secretary General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities Zahi Hawwas called for adopting a serious stance regarding the Israeli violations in Al-Quds city (east Jerusalem) and called for boycotting countries that helped the Israeli authorities in such acts.
Addressing an emergency conference of heads of Arab antiquity authorities in Cairo on Sunday 4/3/2007, Hawwas suggested the formation of a committee of Arab antiquity scientists and launching an Arab-Islamic campaign to identify those countries.
He pointed out that Egypt would prepare a black list of such countries and post it on the internet. "Missions that are working with the Israelis will not be allowed to work at Egyptian antiquities sites until they stop their work in the holy city of Al-Quds," he said.
He urged scientists and archaeologists in the Arab and Islamic worlds to adopt serious and prompt stances regarding the Israeli violations.
He warned of the dangers Islamic and Christian sanctities were facing, pointing out that Israel has been working for Judaising the city since 1967.
He suggested getting UNESCO to intervene to halt any acts of digging at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the city's historical and religious sites.
