In a demonstration of support for the Lebanese people and government in the face of the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanese territories, an official and popular delegation representing the Egyptian government, the People's Assembly and the Shura Council, press establishments, national councils, parties, unions and artists visited Lebanon Tuesday.
Among the delegation members was Gamal Mubarak, the Assistant Secretary General of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Secretary of the policies Committee.
During the meeting, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud said Egypt has always been supporting Lebanon in time of need. He said when Israel bombed electricity stations, he was telephoned by President Mubarak who ordered extending assistance to Lebanon in the field of electricity and other fields.
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Seniora on Tuesday said the visit by the Egyptian popular and official delegation to Lebanon made the Lebanese people proud and fuelled their resolve to stick to their rights. Siniora lauded Egypt's stance in support of the Lebanese people.
In this context, President Hosni Mubarak received on Tuesday a cable of thanks from Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, in which he voiced his appreciation of Mubarak's role in helping the Lebanese people in their ordeal. In the cable, Siniora thanked the President and the Egyptian people for all their efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Lebanese people in the face of Israel's barbarian and unfair war on Lebanon.
Siniora also underlined Mubarak's non-stop contacts to solve the current crisis in the Lebanese lands. President Hosni Mubarak had ordered an airlift to be established between Beirut and Cairo Since the very beginning of the conflict. up to ten Egyptian aircraft laden with stuffs and medicine have flown to Beirut so far. President Mubarak has also championed Arab calls to an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Siniora expressed gratitude to President Hosni Mubarak, and to Gamal Mubarak, the National Democratic Party's Assistant Secretary General and the Party's Policies Secretary, along with each member of the Egyptian delegation.
For his part, Information Minister Anas El-Fiqi hailed the steadfastness of the Lebanese people, adding that the Egyptian delegations' visit to Lebanon aimed at demonstrating the solidarity of the Egyptian people and President with them.
Speaker of the Lebanese Chamber of Deputies Nabih Berri received the Egyptian delegation saying all factions of the Lebanese people are now united in the face of Israel's aggression.
For his part, Gamal Mubarak, the National Democratic Party (NDP) Assistant Secretary General Tuesday said the visit of an official and popular delegation to Lebanon reflects the Egyptian people's solidarity with the Lebanese people and government in their ordeal.
In statements before leaving for Beirut among the Egyptian delegation, Mubarak said the visit was an expression of genuine support by the Egyptian people and government to Lebanon.
He added Egypt, over the past weeks and since the very beginning of the offensive on Lebanon, has expressed solidarity with the Lebanese people and government. He expressed hope that the delegation would express Egypt's solidarity with the Lebanese government.
