Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit held a session of talks on Monday12/5/2008 with Srgjan Kerim, the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), currently visiting Cairo to discuss developments in the region and African issues.
The Foreign Minister urged the UNGA President to exert maximum efforts to magnify the role of the United Nations in solving regional issues in a just and fair way.
The spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Magdi Radi, said the Foreign Minister offered Egypt's vision toward common challenges the international community is facing in the political, economic and social domains.
He stressed the importance of the UN role in ending the world food crisis through its contributions and its active participation in the conference the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) will hold in Rome in June.
The spokesman said Kerim extended an invitation to President Hosni Mubarak to attend the UN General Assembly meetings on progress in the implementation of the UN Millennium Development Goals
"The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) supports President Hosni Mubarak's call to hold an international conference to fight terror," the President of the current UNGA session said.
The UNGA attaches special importance to fighting terror on the basis of a strategy it designed for this specific purpose, Srgjan Kerim, the President of the UNGA 62nd session told MENA Monday.
