No plans to impose taxes on stock exchange profits

"There are no plans to impose taxes on stock exchange profits," Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros Ghali said on 14/5/2008.

Recent amendments made by the ministry do not include stock exchange profits, Ghali said.

He added that tax exemptions on stock exchange profits are still effective.

On Tuesday, Chairman of the Egyptian Tax Authority Ashraf el-Arabi said tax there are no present plans to cancel tax exemptions on the stock exchange stock profits.

Arabi said the government is keen on encouraging the stock exchange and the bourse tax exemptions are one of the measures taken by it to serve that purpose, he said.
