Mubarak donates Nehru Award's cash prize to National Cancer Institute

President Hosni Mubarak donated on Thursday 20/11/2008 to the National Cancer Institute the cash prize of the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding that was bestowed on him in India on Tuesday.

The cash reward worth one million Indian rupees (US $ 100,000). At a special ceremony held in New Delhi on Tuesday, Indian President Pratibha Patil handed over the award to President Mubarak in recognition of his efforts in the service of issues of security and peace in the Middle East and understanding among world peoples.

The ceremony to honor President Mubarak was attended by Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and a number of other senior Indian officials.

Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding is an international award presented by the Indian government founded in 1965. The Award is presented "for their outstanding contribution to the promotion of international understanding, goodwill and friendship among peoples of the world".
