Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said consultations are going on between Egypt and the United States to secure a successful visit by President Mubarak to Washington.
The invitation by president Barack Obama to President Mubarak to visit Washington for talks with the U.S. President falls within the area of consultations and the exchange of views and when the two parties agree on a suitable date for the visit, the date would be made public, he added.
Abul-Gheit added what matters is reaching an agreed upon date for Mubarak's visit to Washington.
The visit to Washington by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not coincide with the date of Mubarak's visit to Washington.
Abul-Gheit stressed that Egypt is hoping that the U.S. side would uncover its views for activating the peace process in the Middle East after listening to the Israeli prime minister, head of the Palestinian Authority and President Mubarak.
Answering a question on Washington declaration that the Arab peace initiative contains important points, Abul-Gheit said the United States considers the Arab peace initiative as one of the main bases in the future settlement or the settlement we seek, in addition to the United Nations resolutions in this respect.
On the significance of the U.S. invitations of the three leaders to visit Washington and if this reflected the seriousness of the United States in activating the peace process, Abul-Gheit said let us hope that.
