The World Travel Awards (WTA) has awarded the Giza Pyramids the world's best tourist destination prize at its 14th annual ceremony, held in Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean.
Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Secretary General Dr Zahi Hawwas described the prize as equivalent to the "Tourism Oscar" award.
This year, 167,000 travel professionals from 160 countries voted through the internet for the Giza Pyramids, Hawwas added.
Established in 1993, the WTA acknowledges, rewards and celebrates the enormous achievements found in all sectors of the global travel industry.
