The National Democratic Party (NDP) is calling for drafting a framework to activate President Hosni Mubarak's initiative to render the ME free of weapons of mass destruction, said Gamal Mubarak, the NDP policies secretary.
The NDP affirms the right of all countries in the ME and elsewhere to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, he told members of the NDP general secretariat.
The party is also pressing for bringing Israel's nuclear program under the international supervision and pressurizing Israel to join international agreements, he added.
Gamal Mubarak said that a national security paper will be discussed by the NDP congress on ties between Egypt and Iran.
The Egyptian-Iranian ties should not be marked with tension and conflict, he added.
But we oppose any Iranian interference in the affairs of neighboring countries or possessing nuclear weapons in order to spare the region an arms race, he noted.
Gamal Mubarak stressed the NDP's rejection of foreign interference in the national affairs of the Arab countries.
