Within the framework of a full dressed vision for developing and enhancing party life in Egypt, the meetings of the 9th congress of the National Democratic Party (NDP) will open today by electing President Mubarak as NDP chairman through direct and secret ballot for the first time in the NDP history.
This is also a culmination of the restructuring process of the party through which it has selected its leaderships from the bottom to the top through free elections.
The election of the NDP chairman will take place in an ad hoc session which will proceed the inaugural session during which 6500 NDP members will cast their votes. The president will witness the announcement of the result and will then give a short statement in which he will thank the members heralding the official beginning of the NDP congress.
