Mubarak unanimously elected NDP leader

The National Democratic Party (NDP) on ‎Saturday3/11/2007 renewed its confidence in President ‎Hosni Mubarak, electing him unanimously as NDP ‎chairman for the coming session.‎

President Mubarak's election, through secret ballot, ‎was held at a special session preceding the ninth NDP ‎general congress.‎

Youssef Wali, Deputy NDP chairman for internal ‎affairs and head of the committee overseeing the party ‎leader elections, announced President Mubarak's ‎election as party chairman.‎

He said that from eligible votes, 5,248 delegates voted ‎yes and nine no. Fifty-three votes were null and void.‎

The session came in advance of the inauguration of the ‎NDP 9th congress to be attended by President Hosni ‎Mubarak at the Nasr City International Conference ‎Center.‎

It is the first time in the NDP history, the party ‎chairman was elected through secret ballot.‎
