The National Democratic Party (NDP) on Saturday3/11/2007 renewed its confidence in President Hosni Mubarak, electing him unanimously as NDP chairman for the coming session.
President Mubarak's election, through secret ballot, was held at a special session preceding the ninth NDP general congress.
Youssef Wali, Deputy NDP chairman for internal affairs and head of the committee overseeing the party leader elections, announced President Mubarak's election as party chairman.
He said that from eligible votes, 5,248 delegates voted yes and nine no. Fifty-three votes were null and void.
The session came in advance of the inauguration of the NDP 9th congress to be attended by President Hosni Mubarak at the Nasr City International Conference Center.
It is the first time in the NDP history, the party chairman was elected through secret ballot.
