Sherif said the party witnessed in the past five years unprecedented political performance, adding that the party started dialogue with Egyptian political parties upon a call made by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak during the party's second annual conference held in September 2004.
February 2005, Sherif added, witnessed President Mubarak's initiative to elect the President of the republic through free direct elections.

In his address before the session, NDP Secretary General Safwat al-Sherif said the re-election of President Hosni Mubarak as the party leader was due to his giving, sacrifices and loyal leadership of Egypt both in war and in peace, pointing out that his re-election was carried out in a secret ballot earlier in the morning.
"We have chosen President Mubarak for his wisdom and patriotism and in respect of the people's wish," he said.
