Egypt's airports capacity up in 2010

"The capacity of the Egyptian airports will increase from 38 million passengers a year to 57.5 million passengers a year by 2010," said Civil Aviation Minister Ahmed Shafiq.

He told a session of the National Democratic Party (NDP)'s General congress on Saturday that the capacity of Cairo International Airport would go up to 22 million passengers a year in mid 2009 from the current level of 11 million passenger a year.

The Minister described the restructure of EgyptAir as a success story.

It has helped the company improve its performance and increase its profits, he said.

Shafiq said that the civil aviation sector needed LE 20 billion in the coming two years to upgrade, calling on the private sector to carry out projects in the civil aviation field.
