Needs of Egyptian limited-income categories come first on NDP's priorities

Within the framework of the NDP congress, the meetings held Sunday 4/11/2007 witnessed the presentation of a report on following up the implementation of the presidential platform.

This report showed that the challenges facing the party in the second party session (2007-2011) will be confronted through a number of instruments.

These challenges are represented in the Egyptian nuclear programme for peaceful uses, developing the sector of agriculture and raising living standards of the Egyptian farmer.

In the plenary session held Sunday , Gamal Mubarak, the policies secretary said the needs of the Egyptian limited-income categories come first on the list of priorities of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

During his participation in the second day of the ninth congress of the NDP Sunday, Gamal Mubarak said the congress has a fat agenda.

The agenda includes economic issues related to finding jobs for young people and other topics related to the sectors of health, education and social justice in Egypt.

The conferees, he noted, are also taking up issue of national security of Egypt and its relations with other countries along with the issues of water, energy and democracy.

The participants will also discuss means of maintaining political reform in Egypt, he pointed out.

Gamal Mubarak said problems facing the Egyptian village are among issues on the agenda of the 9th NDP congress in terms of providing water and sanitary drainage network.

Providing health care and schools for the Egyptians are also on the agenda along with the rights of labourers and job opportunities for youths, he added.

He referred to President Hosni Mubarak's address before the congress Saturday, saying he called for reviewing achievements and trying to realise what has not been accomplished yet.

As for the economic situation in Egypt, he pointed out to a percentage of growth between 6 and 7.1.

He referred to reports on Egypt being one of the countries which have carried out active economic reforms over the past few years.

He pointed out to private sector investments, saying they have reached $ 11 billion as direct foreign investments this year up from only $ 600 million in 2001/2002. However, the NDP and the government are not satisfied with the size of foreign investments in Egypt, he added.

As for Egyptian exports, Gamal Mubarak said it is a very important issue. He added that exports have multiplied over the past few years.

Agricultural exports increased by 45% last year and the Egyptian economy is moving ahead.

The government and non-government sectors will create some 1.4 million job opportunities could be realised within the coming four years.

He pointed out to the allocation of LE 500 million in the budget this year for training courses for graduates.

He reviewed urban planning and strategic planning for more than 1,800 villages as well as means of transportation including the railway which is suffering from a lot of problems.
