Minister of Finance Youssef Boutros Ghali announced on Sunday 4/11/2007 providing a pension for every citizen aged 65 either male or female of those who received no pensions from the State as part of the new system for insurance and pensions.
Ghali's statements came during a public session of the NDP committee on social justice and support for poor families under Gamal Mubarak, the National Democratic Party (NDP)'s Assistant Secretary General and the NDP Policies Secretary.
The minister pointed out that a number of new ideas on pensions and insurance were adopted during the meeting.
On his part, Minister of Housing Ahmed El-Maghrabi said President Hosni Mubarak's electoral platform included the construction of 500,000 residential units, pointing out that 70,000 units have been built so far for poor families.
Minister of Social Security Ali El-Museilhi said the government and NDP programme depend on developing the most impoverished areas in a scientific way.
He stressed the importance of providing citizens with subsidised bread, adding that despite the price hike in wheat flour worldwide, the government was still committed to delivering the same quantities of flour to bakeries.
The needs of limited-income categories come first on the list of priorities of the NDP, said Gamal Mubarak, during his participation in day two of the ninth general conference of the NDP Sunday.
