Mubarak: Vast opportunity for expanding cooperation between Egypt &Uganda
President Hosni Mubarak held Wednesday30/7/2008 tête-à-tête talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on boosting bilateral ties, as well as a host of regional and international issues of common interest.
The meeting was followed by an expanded session of talks, with the two countries' official delegations attending, to discuss means of bolstering bilateral cooperation in the various fields.
Ambassador Suleiman Awwad, the Egyptian Presidential Spokesman described President Mubarak's visit to Uganda as extremely important.
He said the two leaders discussed ways of boosting bilateral relations in the economic and commercial fields, carrying out agricultural projects with Uganda for confronting the crisis of the world food prices.
Awwad said the summit tackled developments in the Great Lakes region and ways of settling African conflicts by peaceful means.
During the expanded session of talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala, President Mubarak expressed full support for President Museveni's proposals for deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of, wheat cultivation, irrigation, meat and dairy products, fish, electricity, infrastructures and roads.
President Mubarak described his talks with the Ugandan President as important and fruitful, saying he was looking forward to enhancing regional cooperation within the framework of the Nile Basin initiative and other regional and African issues of mutual concern.
President Mubarak praised his friendship relations with President Museveni for a long time adding he appreciates President Museveni who has accomplished many achievements in his country.
During the luncheon banquet hosted by the Ugandan President, President Mubarak said this friendship reflects the level of relations linking the Egyptian and Ugandan brotherly peoples. He said his visit reflects mutual keenness to give a new push to bilateral cooperation.
For his part, President Museveni said his country was keen to cooperate with Egypt for providing food adding Uganda has many companies working in the field of dairy production and foodstuffs.
He invited the Egyptian companies to come to Uganda for taking part in food production. He said if the Egyptian companies come to work in Uganda, his country would export food not only to Egypt but also to other markets.
