Egypt's interest in Africa

The participation of President Mubarak in the African Union summit which began yesterday in Accra confirms Egypt's interest in solving the issues of the Black Continent. This is in addition to boosting our relations with the African countries given that Egypt is part and parcel of Africa. In fact, Egypt used to assist African liberation movements till ending the foreign occupation all over Africa. It also presents aid to the African countries southern and northern of the desert, particularly to Sudan where Egypt recently presented $ 156 million to establish power stations in southern Sudan.

In addition, the Egyptian Fund for Development, affiliated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provides technical assistance and scholarships to the African brothers. On the other hand, Egypt partakes in peacekeeping missions in Africa as in Darfur and Southern Sudan. The Egyptian efforts continued to contain the border conflicts between Eritrea and Ethiopia, Senegal and Mauritania.

Egypt undertakes, however, the file of agriculture and foreign marketing of the African products in the world in the light of the fact that the African economies almost depend on the agricultural production and raw materials. Egypt also proposed setting up a number of infrastructure projects in the field of agriculture, land reclamation, transportation and technology.
