EU-Africa Summit
Lisbon, Portugal
December 8 - 9, 2007

The foreign ministers of 80 African and European countries together with the Commissioners of the African and European Unions are expected to participate in the EU-Africa Summit due to be held in Lisbon on December 7 through 8. Discussions will focus on several issues of mutual concern such as climate changes, debt, poverty and illegal immigration. Other issues on the agenda include trade, technology transfer, integrating Africa into global economy, peace and security. Also to be examined is the assistance Europe promised Africa in the 1st summit alongside the partnership between Africa and Europe set to take effect in three years.
 
The partnership strategy has four priorities:
·         Peace and security
·         Governance and human rights
·         Regional integration
·         Development issues
 
The partnership strategy covers infrastructure, food sufficiency, climate changes, human resource development, gender equality, energy, potable water and information technology.
 
At its close, the EU-Africa Summit will adopt three documents:
·         A joint African-European strategy
·         Action plan
·         A final statement under the title: "The Lisbon Declaration"
