Intensive Egyptian contacts for reaching an agreement on Annapolis conference, November 26, 2007

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit left Cairo Sunday 25/11/2007 for the United States to take part in Annapolis conference. In pre-departure statements, Minister Abul-Gheit said he had a series or contacts with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Syria and the United States as well as Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa in a bid to reach an agreement on agenda drafting the final document and how to steer the procedures of the conference which will open tomorrow.

He said during these contacts which lasted for 12 hours, he discussed with those officials the form of the Arab participation in the meeting, the agenda and the tracks which will be focused on whether the Palestinian, the Syrian or the Lebanese track, indicating that they have reached an agreement on the elements of the meeting.

He said the Arab participants will meet at 16:00 p.m. today (Washington Local Time) for coordination of roles to be played at the conference.
