Botrus Ghali to BBC: It is important to mobilize int'l public opinion to solveLebanese crisis

Dr Botrus Ghali, Chairman of Egypt's Higher Council for Human Rights and former UN Secretary General, underlined on Wednesday 26/7/2006 the importance of mobilizing the international public opinion to solve the Lebanese crisis.

In statements to the BBC, Dr Ghali, currently visiting here, said international organisations and human rights commissions in various world countries should mobilise their efforts to save the Lebanese people being attacked.

He said Rome conference on the situation in Lebanon slated for later in the day is a positive step for solving the Lebanese crisis. But what matters is the resolutions to be adopted and how to be implemented, he added.

Many conferences were held and adopted resolutions but have never been applied, he said.

He expressed hope the Rome conference would be able to reach a formula to cease fire and halt Israeli offensive on the Lebanese people.
