The Egyptian National Human Rights Council (NHRC) said the high numbers of Lebanese victims due to Israeli raids attested to failure on part of the international community to protect civilians at times of armed conflicts.
The NHRC called upon the United Nations Human Rights reporters in Geneva to pressure Israel for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon.
NHRC Secretary General Mokhles Kotb, in press statements, noted that the numbers of the displaced in Lebanon hit as many as 500,000; some state of affairs portending a humanitarian crisis.
He underlined the necessity that the international community should work for facilitating the delivery of humanitarian relief assistance to the needy people in Lebanon.
