NCHR Chief: Int'l community silence toward Israeli aggression unacceptable

Chairman of the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Boutros Boutros Ghali lashed out Thursday at the international community's silence in the face of incessant Israeli aggressions on Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.

In statements to MENA, Ghali, a former UN secretary-general, said the Israeli massacre in Qana revived memories of other Israeli carnages against the Lebanese people.

UN efforts should not stop at the Security Council which has failed to reach a resolution halting the 20-day onslaught, said Ghali, noting that other UN bodies should play a more effective role in addressing the current bloodshed in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories.
