Farmers condemn Israeli aggression

The Board of Directors of the Central Agricultural Cooperative Union – CACU – has, on behalf of Egypt's farmers, condemned Israel's unwarranted aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, especially the massacres which took place in Qana and other cities in the south and north of Lebanon. Farmers, who make up around 55 per cent of Egypt's population, see Israel's onslaught as a disgrace to humanity.

In a statement issued yesterday, August 6, 2006, the CACU has underlined the need to bring pressure to bear on the US and Israel with a view to halting all acts of hostility targeting civilians in Lebanon and Palestine. Respect of human rights, commitment to international agreements protecting civilians during armed conflict and an investigation into the human tragedy visited on both the Lebanese and the Palestinians were further called for.

The CACU statement has also hailed the solidarity of the Lebanese people and Hezbollah fighters facing the devastation created by Israeli soldiers. America's role in supplying Israel with arms and funds and in desecrating the meaning of justice, freedom, equality and peoples' right to self-determination has been denounced.

The CACU has called upon the international community to assume its responsibility as regards Israel's inhumane massacres and in respect of international legality.

The CACU has opened a special bank account to receive donations from individuals and agricultural cooperatives nation-wide with the purpose of supporting the Palestinians and Lebanese peoples in their struggle.
