Egypt calls for appointing an international committee for investigating Qana massacre

Egypt Tuesday called for appointing an international committee for launching an international investigation into the Qana massacre against the Lebanese people. This came in many messages addressed by Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit to the United Nations Secretary General, the Arab League (AL) Secretary General and the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference.

Egypt has launched an initiative for convening an extraordinary session by the Human Rights Council in Geneva for taking a decision on dispatching a committee for investigating the massacre which represents a flagrant violation of international Humanitarian Law. Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit has warned that expanding military operations in Lebanon without reaching a mutual ceasefire would threaten the whole region and dash any chance for establishing peace.

On the other hand, and based on the call of President Hosni Mubarak to Egyptian nationals to do all what they can for the Lebanese people, Egyptians have raced to donate for the Lebanese people to help ease their sufferings in their current tragedy.
Businessmen have bought medicine, food stuffs and powdered milk to be sent to Beirut in coordination with the Lebanese embassy in Cairo. Other people have given shelter to displaced Lebanese families, who fled to Egypt in the aftermath of the Israeli aggression. The Union of Arab Doctors has raised so far up to one million pounds in donations for the Lebanese and the Palestinian.

Artists and movie producers have further donated revenues of their blockbusters to the Lebanese. The Egyptian Red Crescent has sent tons of emergency aid to Beirut through an airlift ordered by President Mubarak.
On the other hand, the National Democratic Party on Tuesday called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon, denouncing the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and the heinous massacre in Qana.
