Apart from Egyptian intensive activity at the political level to reach an immediate ceasefire, Abul-Gheit discussed in a telephone conversation with Secretary of State the current developments in Lebanon and the need for halting Israeli military operations.

During the conversation, Abul -Gheit renewed Egypt's stance, calling for an immediate ceasefire and stressing the need for solving all lingering issues between Lebanon and Israel such as the restoration of Shebaa Farms, the exchange of prisoners and that the multinational force which is suggested to be deployed should have the character of a peacekeeping not peace imposing one.
