Abul-Gheit directs ambassadors to convey Egypt's concern over Israeli breach of 1701

Egypt has instructed its ambassadors to the five Permanent UNSC member states plus Spain, Italy, Germany, the EU and the UN to convey Cairo's grave concern over Israel's violation of UNSC Resolution 1701.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit has instructed the ambassadors to convey Egypt's deep concern over the Israeli violation of the UNSC resolution on the cessation of hostilities with Lebanon.

The violation stemmed from an Israeli raid on Saturday on the southern Beqaa under the pretext of stopping the transfer of a batch of arms to Hezbollah, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said Sunday.

This shows Israel is giving itself the right to interfere militarily to stop what it regards as a security threat, which contravenes UNSC Resolution 1701 and threatens the renewal of confrontations between the two sides, he added.

Abul-Gheit called on the UNSC to adopt a firm position to have Israel understand that such actions are unacceptable.

He also stressed the importance of not being deluded by the fallacy of imposing security by force in southern Lebanon.

Furthermore, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit denounced on Sunday news reports that armed groups in Iraq targeted Arab residents in the country, including Egyptians.

In statements, the Minister voiced belief that such groups could never represent the Iraqi people who were always keen on maintaining Arab values.

Abul-Gheit affirmed the Egyptian people and government's stance in support of Iraq until it realized stability .
