Mubarak speech to journalists after returned back from KSA

President Mubarak has called, yesterday 25/7/2006, for reaching an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and putting an end to human disaster and bloodshed whose price is paid by Lebanese innocents and civilians. He noted that what is happening in the Middle East is a destructive not constructive chaos.

President Mubarak said his visit to Saudi Arabia and his talks with King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz came in the framework of ongoing consultations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in the face of the challenges confronting the Lebanese people due to the continuous attacks on them.

The President said Egypt's stance is based on the need for reaching an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and putting an end to the military operations and all acts of destruction there. The President said that Rome Conference should adopt a clear-cut resolution calling for immediate ceasefire for saving the Lebanese people in order to open the door before reaching a political solution for the Lebanese crisis. Mubarak said that losses will be greater if the conferees did not reach a decision to be submitted to the UN Security Council for issuing a resolution on the situation as soon as possible.

The President said it is difficult to tackle the crisis in the light of the raging fighting, urging Arab countries to act for putting an end to fighting in Lebanon. The President said Egypt is making contacts with all parties, especially Arab countries, in order to put an end to the current deterioration in Lebanon and to spare the region the risks of miscalculated escalation which could drag the region to untoward consequences.

Mubarak said Egypt aims to ease the suffering of all Arab peoples especially the Lebanese in light of destruction of the Lebanese infrastructure and big numbers of victims and evacuators.

The President asserted that Egypt supports the unity and sovereignty of the Lebanese people as Egypt is adopting a neutral stance among different Lebanese factions adding Egypt cannot enter into deals with any party at the account of another. Mubarak made it clear that Egypt assumes its responsibilities and takes its decision according to the interest of the Arab nation with full calculation for all circumstances and consequences.

The President said Egypt is aware of the risks of the current situation in Lebanon, warning that the whole region could face a disaster if no ceasefire was reached. He said the solution now lies in reaching an immediate ceasefire adding all parties are advised not to be dragged to miscalculated adventures as only innocent citizens who will pay the price.
