The Arab Republic of Egypt condemned the irresponsible Israeli bombardment of Qana village in Lebanon. In this respect, Egypt stressed the pressing need for a serious international endeavour to issue an international resolution for immediate ceasefire.
Following is the text of the Presidential statement in this connection:
The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its grave concern and condemnation of the irresponsible Israeli shelling of the Lebanese village of Qana, and the resulting loss of innocent lives, mostly women and children.
The Arab Republic of Egypt that has called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire right from the first day of the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, underscores the pressing need for serious international endeavours to urgently issue a resolution by the Security Council calling for an immediate cessation of military hostilities, and calls upon the members of the Council, particularly the permanent members, to uphold their responsibilities, in accordance with the United Nations Charter, international law and international humanitarian, law, to put an end to this aggression against Lebanon, its people and its infrastructure, and to provide the necessary calm for diplomatic action to address the underlying causes of this crisis.
In this context, the Arab Republic of Egypt affirms its support for the points put forward by the Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad as-Signora before the Rome conference last week; which provide a workable and realistic basis for ending this crisis.
