Egypt calls UNSC for immedate cease-fire in Lebanon

President Mubarak confirmed how serious the events and developments that are now running in both the Lebanese and the Palestinian fields. He elaborated in his speech delivered on his behalf by Dr. Mofid Shehab head of the delegation to the Islamic Summit that Israel's violation of human international law and Geneva conventions necessitates bringing perpetrators of those crimes as well as that of Qana before the criminal international court as war-criminals.

Dr. Shehab asserted in the OIC urgent meeting in Kuala Lumbur that Egypt's speech focused – in the closed meeting - on a number of important points such as how serious are the developments and bloody events that run in Lebanon and Palestine. Such events augur getting the region right into an unpredictable turning point plus destroying the peace process in the Middle East.

The Egyptian delegation head pointed out that Egypt confirmed its support to the Lebanese seven-point-plan proposed by Lebanese Prime Minister including immediate unconditional cease-fire and urging UNSC to shoulder its responsibilities. He added Egypt asserted also supporting the current negotiations on political settlement for Lebanese crisis in accordance with international legality and UNSC resolutions.

Shehab pointed out to the fact that Egypt continues to send medical and food assistance to Lebanese people and dispatched complete field hospital to Beirut.

Egyptian delegation head answered the pretexts floated by Israel that it practices self-defense as no legal conditions are available for alleged self-defense, he said. Moreover, Israeli destructive response does not in any way suit the event as it targets civilians, especially kids and women plus destroying civil Lebanese buildings. What Israel committed represents stark violation to international law and UN charter.

Dr. Shehab said Egypt called for urgent meeting of UN Human Rights Council to investigate crimes committed by Israel in South Lebanon and to compensate material losses and victims resulting from such brutal practices.
