Amabssador Sa'ad Al Farargy, Arab League permanent delegate, asserted in the UN European headquarters in Geneva that there was a great international support for President Mubarak's initiative to hold an investigation of Qana's carnage.
He said that the Egyptian document submitted to the emergency meeting of the Human Rights Council included a demand for Israel to abide immediately by all the international legal obligations as well as Human Rights law especially the Rights' of the Child Agreement.
The draft resolution also includes a demand of an immediate dispatch of an investigation committee of high level that comprises experts of human rights and the International Humanitarian Law to investigate into the targeting of civilians in Lebanon and evaluate whether Israel has taken the precautious measures to avoid incurring losses among civilians while carrying out their military operations.
The Egyptian document also demands the examination of the kinds of weapons used by Israel and the investigation of their compatibility with the concept of proportional relation. Among the demands also is the recording of all the material and humanitarian losses that resulted from the Israeli violations of the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.
The document also addressed UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour to offer all necessary support and assistance to enabling this committee of fulfilling its mission efficiently.
