Overview

Egypt introduced to mankind one of the oldest political and administrative systems when the first central state was established at the banks of the Nile. The great Egyptian civilization established and continued as a result of strong bases of regulation, presidency arts, administration and legislation.

Egypt was pioneer in forming these organizational frames which play important roles in forming the life of the Egyptians and protecting the values of liberty and democracy. Egypt introduced the Parliamentary system since 1824 and the world has derived from Egypt the institutions and modern administrative systems as well as the formulas of the Constitution, and judicial authority. Egypt issued the first constitution in 1882 and after canceling the British protectorate in 1922, Egypt issued the second constitution in 1923.

The Constitution of the Arab Republic of Egypt issued on September 11, 1971 and amended on May 22, 1980, May 25, 2005 and March, 2007 regulates the political system of the State and the specifications of the public authorities. The Constitution states that Arabic is the official language and principles of Islamic law (Shari'a) are the principal source of legislation.

The Arab Republic of Egypt is a democratic state based on citizenship as stipulated in Article (1). The Egyptian people are part of the Arab nation and work for the realization of its comprehensive unity. The political system of the Arab Republic of Egypt includes: legislative, judicial and executive authorities in addition to the Media, political parties, local administration and NGO's.
