Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak attended Wednesday17/5/2006 a celebration on the Working Women's Day.
The celebration was held under women empowerment slogan. It was also held in appreciation for the women's role in building the society.
Delivering a speech on the occasion, Mrs Mubarak, the chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW), attributed women's role in development projects to the government and private sector joint effort.
She called for opening new job opportunities for women.
Activating women's role in social, political and cultural arenas was as important as that in the economic arena, she said.
Women should play a role in confronting seeds of sedition in the country, she added.
Speaking to the gathering, Mrs. Mubarak highlighted the achievements of the working women in Egypt.
"We are so proud of the role played by Egyptian women in all domains," Mrs. Mubarak said.
"Egyptian women go to work to constitute a main component of the Egyptian economic development mechanism," she added.
Women are playing no less important role in the private sector than they do in the public one, she noted.
Women's part in the non-government organisations is also growing, according to Mrs Mubarak.
For her part, Minister of Manpower and Immigration Aisha Abdel-Hadi lauded Egypt's pivotal role on the international level, citing the upcoming World Economic Forum due in Sharm El-Sheikh on Saturday.
An international women summit will be held mid-June in Egypt under the auspices of Mrs Mubarak, she said.
