Speech of Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak after receiving the pioneering women prize

Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak stressed in her speech during the ceremony, after receiving the Global Summit of Women's prize for pioneering world women, that the participants tackled during the summit the role of women in the economic sector and means of establishing the capacities of women in order to exploit their potentials in light of the competition in the world market.

She added that it seems clear the necessity of creating an appropriate atmosphere which allows for distinguishing persons who are the elements of change, a climate of stability which enables them to make use of the available opportunities as well as the secure life in which they work together to guarantee a welfare of their societies.

Mrs. Mubarak stressed that though all peoples are desirous for peace, the experience proved that peace has not the same concept for all persons. As for some peoples, peace means the absence of war and violence and for some others it means the inner peace, stability, peace with self and environment, but for others, and I'm one of them, peace is one of requirements of development, democracy and order where justice and rule of law are given respect, she added.

Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak said that the Arab and African region witnessed decades of conflicts and wars that appeared without end. Women suffered from repercussions of said wars where they survived conflicts in their societies, villages and homes and even in battlefields. She made it clear that in spite of said obstacles many women exerted efforts to rebuild their societies and fought to protect the human dignity form which they were deprived.

She noted that said women are the peace activists representing the source of power and hope for their children and societies. They created opportunities for dialogue beyond identity, religion and political belongingness and encouraged others to do the same. They are the unknown soldiers in a world owing to them with many achievements.

Mrs. Mubarak confirmed that while establishing the Suzanne Mubarak Women's for Peace International Movement in 2003 she aimed to open the field for those women to express themselves, interact with each other, develop their potentials and render success their efficient voices.

She said that the movement looks at peace form its vast angle taking into account bases of development, justice and security. She noted that they focus not only on the security of states but also the human security including the internal peace through which the person feels peace with himself, family, society, country and world. It means the honorable life which enables us to respect dignity of others and means getting the healthy food, proper house, equality in education and healthy services. It needs living in a secure environment free of risks and all forms of violence.

Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak said that working with children and youths, champs of future for peace, comes on top of the movement's priorities as youths defend peace and enjoy innovation and power necessary for hope. She added that the movement is working to build potentials of youths through clarifying peace and the role it may play in their lives and create channels through which they can express their needs, targets and participations in their societies. It also enables them to transfer the culture of peace into a culture of life distinguished with value of justice, tolerance, cooperation and communication with their societies.

She pointed out that the movement started to work with youths as a main part of the peace education program through activities for children and youths confirming her deep belief that in order to reach peace we must learn it.

Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak said that we are gathering today women form 88 countries and in spite of the difference in the language, culture and profession we believe that we can make the change. She added that the movement assembled women together from around the world in the international conference in Geneva generating the international coalition for women defenders of peace which includes representatives of governments, NGOs and private sector who intended to work together to stop spreading of violence, injustice and despair in the international community.

She concluded her speech that without this power based on the common values we neither face the increasing challenges nor realize our determined legitimate targets.
