"2007 would be Egypt's "Year of the Girl", Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and head of the technical consultative committee of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), announced Sunday 17/12/2006

Egyptian women and girls have to reaffirm their adherence to the rights they had obtained thanks to intensified efforts by the parties concerned, Mrs. Mubarak said during her meeting with directors of the various NCCM projects.

According to Mrs Mubarak, the year will centre on issues of concern to girls, especially illiteracy and circumcision.
