The activities of International Youth Forum started today 1/9/2007 in Sharm el-Sheikh with Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, founder and head of the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) announcing the opening of the forum. The 3-day forum is held in cooperation with 25 civil society institutions and international organizations.
Mrs. Mubarak delivered a speech after listening to an open dialogue among the youth at the start of the forum opening ceremony.
The forum entitled "Youths for peace, youths talk and we listen" aims to bring together young people from all parts of the world in an attempt to highlight their enormous potential as change-makers. The forum's activities and discussions will tackle five main issues, namely understanding oneself and accepting the other, communications and information technology (ICT) for peace, developing youth capabilities, violence or peace - a personal choice, health for all, and peace for all.
The forum, in addition to these discussions, will hold a round-table on communications and information technology for peace. The forum will invite representatives of youths, international organizations and decision makers as well as internet service providers to discuss protection of users of the internet.
The forum is expected to prepare a work plan which includes short and medium range policies on how to boost the participation of youth in the economic, political, and social aspects.
