Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, founder and head of the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement (SMWIPM), urged Sunday 2/9/2007 youth organisations, the business sector and civil society organisations across the globe to implement an information and communications technology (ICT) initiative for peace.
The initiative aims at magnifying ICT benefits in building a constructive climate for the sake of peace.
Mrs. Mubarak launched the initiative on the sidelines of the international youth forum in Sharm El-Sheikh. "You Speak .. We Listen" is run by youths and dedicated to youths.
Giving a word on the occasion of launching the ICT for peace initiative, Mrs. Mubarak said that the initiative would be carried out at the local, regional and international levels, in coordination with representatives of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Global Alliance for ICT and Development (GAID), Cisco Systems Inc. and Microsoft Corporation.
The ICT for peace initiative aims at equipping youth with ICT skills to help them promote values of tolerance, understanding and peaceful co-existence, Mrs Mubarak said.
The initiative is also meant to urge youths to engage in promoting world peace.
The initiative includes seven tracks related to means of promoting the safe use of the internet, developing ICT skills and smart Internet usage.
