Mubarak to Assuit leadership: Polls to boost legislative reform
President Hosni Mubarak said that the parliamentary polls, scheduled to start on November 9, complement the drive for constitutional and legislative reform.
He added that the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) was seeking majority in the Parliament in order to back the government in achieving transformation to democracy and further improvement in people's living standards.
Mubarak, who heads the NDP, was speaking to the local leaders in the Upper Egyptian city of Assiut via a video conference link. The NDP, which held the majority at the outgoing Parliament, has fielded 444 candidates for the upcoming polls.
