President Hosni Mubarak Wednesday received Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz who arrived earlier in the day on a brief visit to Egypt. The meeting, held at the Presidential Headquarters, was attended on the Egyptian side by Minister of Defence and Military Production Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi and on the Israeli side by Staff Director for Minister of Defence Ami Shafran and Israeli Ambassador to Egypt Shalom Cohen. The Mubarak-Mofaz talks fall within the context of Egyptian attempts to promote peace efforts and remove obstacles impeding the opening of the checkpoints and the Gaza airport and ports. They also follow Mubarak's talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo Monday. |
