President Hosni Mubarak and visiting Eritrean President Asaias Afworki on Thursday held a tête-à-tête session of talks probing the current conditions in Africa, the armed conflicts in the Dark Continent, especially in the Horn of Africa.
Talks also dwelt on tension between Eritrea and Ethiopia and issues tabled on the agenda of the coming African summit slated for next month in Khartoum. An expanded session of talks was held later on that was attended on the Egyptian side by Prime Minister Dr Ahmed Nazif and Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit. Attending on the Eritrean side were members of the delegation accompanying President Afworki.
Talks between President Mubarak and his Eritrean counterpart were resumed at a luncheon banquet in honor of his Eritrean guest, with members of the two countries' delegations attending.
Mubarak-Afworki talks were held one month prior to the AU summit due in Khartoum late in January.
The AU summit will probe latest developments in armed disputes among member states.
The Eritrean leader arrived in Cairo earlier today on a two-day visit.
