September 19, 2001 Mubarak in an interview with the French daily "Le Figaro"

President Hosni Mubarak also said in a separate interview with the French daily Le Figaro that the battle against terrorism needed world coordination and a high-level exchange of information.

In such a battle, he told the daily, all circles of terrorism should be isolated and uprooted. "Terrorism is a threat to the entire humanity. It does not differentiate between nations and it strikes anywhere to terrorise people," Information Minister Safwat el-Sherif quoted the Egyptian leader as telling the French paper.

He added that the President had called anew for convening an international conference, under the United Nations umbrella, to discuss terrorism.

"The conference should issue binding resolutions and create mechanisms to follow up the implementation of these decisions," Mubarak said. According to Sherif, Mubarak's interview with Le Figaro tackled the situation in the Middle East, the Egyptian-French ties and the Egyptian leader's coming visit to France.
